Have you wanted to knit Fair Isle (also called stranded knitting or colourwork), but not sure how? Our Fair Isle class will introduce you to the core elements of Fair Isle knitting as you create a beanie. We’ll cover key techniques such as two-colour stranded knitting and catching floats, while experimenting with colour and pattern.
This class is suitable for anyone with basic-level knitting skills (knit, purl).
Action required:
- Yarn – Students need to bring their own supplies, including 150 grams of 8ply (DK) yarn for the main colour (MC) and small (scrap) amounts of 2-4 other colours, also in 8ply (DK) for the colourwork.
- Needles – Students need to bring a 4mm circular needle (either 40cm or 60cm long) or the correct size to obtain the required tension (22 stitches and 30 rounds to 10cm over stocking stitch in the round). Many people find that their tension is tighter when knitting colourwork – you may want to bring a circular needle one size larger than your main needle, e.g. 4.5mm.
- Other helpful accessories - Scissors, stitch markers, ruler (to keep track of chart progress)
- Homework will be required - emailed to participant after sign-up.
